After talking about camping with the kids for the last few years, we finally pulled the trigger. Happily, all went splendidly and the kids are asking to go again.
Of course, this wasn't Zack's version of camping. That scenerio starts with a good 5+ mile trek into the deep woods with all our gear on our backs and finding a suitable site to pitch a tent. He thinks he prefers the roughing it for real.
As for me, I was perfectly content with our huge 20 person tent at a State park campground with tons of neighbors in tents and RVs, a clean bathroom fully tiled and nice hot water, and the car right next door to drive down to the lake for some afternoon beach time. In addition to that, we had good friends camping at the adjacent site with their three kids (instant kid fun) and then three other family friends down the street camping in RV-wonderland (which was a great Saturday night party in the woods).
It was perfect. We camped. We hiked. We roasted smores. We went to the beach. Zack mountain biked. We drank beer by the campfire. Life was good.
Here are some pictures to prove it. (You can also check out the Kinger Five blog to see more photos.)

It sounds wonderful. The weather looked perfect too. My first choice would be the camper the second the way you did it. Brings back a lot of memories. Mom
