I used to work in a big software firm. Paid very well to make important decisions, attend meetings, give ideas and opinions that would hopefully help the stock price increase. I gave all that up to stay at home and raise two wonderful children.
The idea in my mind was that I was going to be there to let them grow and learn in a healthy, nurturing environment to be well-mannered, intelligent, and fun-loving people. Yes, the idea was quite lofty.
Today, as I was doing the breakfast dishes, Alexander came up to me with his pants around his ankles, turned around, bent over, and said:
"Mom, can you scratch my butt? It is all itchy."
Perhaps the funnier part is that I didn't even hesitate to bend down, give a little scratch and then return to loading the dishwasher. My job rocks!
